ANOMALITH Announced: New Action Horror Game Brings Otherworldly Monsters to Japan This October
Japanese game developer FuRyu has officially announced ANOMALITH, a new action horror game set in a distorted version of Japan where terrifying anomaly-born monsters threaten humanity. The game is currently in development for Windows PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5, with a worldwide release scheduled for October 29.
Blending survival horror tension with fast-paced third-person action, ANOMALITH takes players into a strange alternate reality shaped by mysterious spatial phenomena known as “Otherworlds.” These unpredictable danger zones have appeared without warning, spreading fear and chaos across Japan. Despite the efforts of the government’s Danger Zone Countermeasures Office, the true cause of the anomalies remains unknown, and attempts to contain them have repeatedly failed.
Players step into the role of Reona Minazuki, an investigator who awakens after spending 10 years trapped inside an anomaly called the “Sarcophagus.” After her long slumber, Reona gains an unusual sensitivity to the Otherworlds, allowing her to detect and interact with these strange dimensions in ways others cannot. Together with her allies and superiors, she must uncover the truth behind the anomalies, protect humanity from the growing threat, and help someone deeply important to her.
ANOMALITH aims to deliver a tense survival horror experience where every encounter can become dangerous. Players will explore unsettling liminal environments that twist the laws of reality, including apartments where gravity is inverted and trains that seem to continue forever. These locations are designed to disorient players, creating a sense of unease as they search for clues, resources, and a way out.
Combat combines third-person shooting with close-range melee attacks. Enemies are described as aggressive, unpredictable, and ravenous, forcing players to stay alert and adapt quickly. When monsters are stunned, Reona can move in for melee strikes, adding a layer of risk and reward to combat. Careful inventory management, smart positioning, and awareness of the environment will be essential for survival.
One of the game’s key systems is the Demi-Humanization System, which allows Reona to gain active and passive abilities from the anomalies themselves. These powers can be upgraded, giving players more options as they progress deeper into the Otherworlds. This system appears to add a supernatural twist to the survival horror formula, letting players shape Reona’s abilities to match their preferred playstyle.
Customization also plays a major role in ANOMALITH. The game includes a wide range of weapons, attachments, artifacts, and outfit items. Artifacts can provide benefits or drawbacks while also granting weapons extra abilities, encouraging experimentation with different builds. Reona’s appearance can also be heavily customized, with more than 300 outfit items spread across nine parts of her character model.
The project features a notable creative team. The scenario is led by Romeo Tanaka, known for Stella of the End and Humanity Has Declined. Character designs are handled by MON, recognized for work connected to Nisio Isin’s Legends Series. Music is composed by Yuka Kitamura, whose previous credits include Elden Ring, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, and Witch Hat Atelier.
With its mix of survival horror, action combat, reality-bending environments, deep customization, and a mysterious story set in an alternate Japan, ANOMALITH is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing horror game releases of the year. Fans of atmospheric horror, supernatural mysteries, and intense third-person action will want to keep an eye on its global launch on October 29 for PC, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5.
