Anbernic Unveils Budget Retro Handhelds With AMOLED Screens and 8GB RAM

Anbernic Launches More Affordable RG557 Retro Handheld Variants With AMOLED Display

Anbernic has introduced cheaper versions of its RG557 retro gaming handheld, giving buyers a more budget-friendly way to get the same core gaming experience. According to the company, these new models retain the key hardware found in the higher-priced versions, making them an attractive option for players who want strong performance without paying extra for bundled storage.

The more affordable RG557 variants still feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset, a 5,500 mAh battery, and a 5.48-inch AMOLED display. That means users can expect the same sharp visuals, vibrant colors, and powerful Android-based gaming performance as the existing models.

One notable detail is that the RG557 continues to ship with Android 14. While the operating system is no longer the newest version available, it should still provide broad compatibility with emulators, Android games, and cloud gaming services.

Pricing for the new Anbernic RG557 models starts at $229. This entry-level version does not include a microSD card and is available in two color options: Transparent Purple and White.

For buyers who want additional storage included, Anbernic is also offering configurations with 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage, and bundled microSD cards. The version with a 128 GB microSD card is priced at $258, while the model with a 256 GB microSD card costs $299.

Anbernic says these prices are part of an introductory offer and will increase by just over $20 after May 22 at 23:59:59. For retro gaming fans considering the RG557, the lower starting price could make this a good time to buy before the price adjustment takes effect.

With its AMOLED screen, capable Dimensity 8300 processor, and large battery, the Anbernic RG557 remains positioned as a strong option for handheld gaming enthusiasts who want a premium Android retro console at a lower entry price.
