Earlier Instinct models like MI300, MI325, and MI355 have been praised for inference, but the timing gap for training-focused deployments slowed momentum. Norrod described the MI450 as AMD’s “Milan moment” for AI, referencing the transformative jump the company achieved with its EPYC Milan server CPUs. What to expect from the MI400 series highlights a hardware and systems overhaul paired with software maturity. The lineup is expected to introduce HBM4 with capacities up to 432 GB, driving a major leap in memory bandwidth—critical for large model training and multi-tenant inference at scale.
