The processor showcases impressive scores, hitting 3,295 in single-core and a substantial 18,650 in multi-core tests in Geekbench 6.2, with a boost clock soaring up to 5.3 GHz.

There’s some chatter around AMD’s promotional materials suggesting the new Ryzen 9 9800X3D will deliver an 8% performance boost in gaming over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. While in synthetic benchmarks, the X3D variant might not outpace its non-X3D sibling, the Ryzen 7 9700X, because of the slightly lower boost clocks. This speculation is buoyed by two separate Geekbench entries for the Ryzen 9 9800X3D, indicating scores of 3,295 and 18,560 in one instance and 3,305 and 18,221 in another. Despite being within the margin of error, these tests were conducted on distinct setups, one on a Biostar X870E motherboard paired with 48 GB of DDR5-8000 RAM, and another on an Asus ROG Crosshair X870E with the same memory configuration.

In the second evaluation, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D impressively pushes up to 5.3 GHz, likely reflecting its peak performance right out of the box. While it falls short of overtaking the Ryzen 7 9700X in single-core performance, it nudges ahead in multi-core tasks. Plus, compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, this Zen 5 powerhouse provides a formidable 22% increase in single-core and a 30% boost in multi-core performance. However, these figures should be taken with caution as X3D chips aren’t specifically tuned for synthetic benchmarks. Performance in real-world gaming scenarios could paint a different picture, so further game-centric evaluations will be eagerly anticipated.
