AMD FidelityFX SDK 3.1.2 Unveiled with Enhanced Xbox Series X/S Compatibility through Native Microsoft GDK Compilation

AMD continues to elevate its open-source initiatives by introducing an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) for the FidelityFX platform. This suite of tools is designed for game developers, offering a range of technologies that can be implemented at their discretion. The latest release, SDK version 1.1.2, is available now and brings valuable updates and bug fixes, particularly for the FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).

This update focuses on resolving specific issues identified in version 3.1.1 of FSR. Importantly, it also integrates necessary code for the October 2024 Game Development Kit (GDK) from Microsoft. This advancement facilitates frame interpolation on both Xbox and PC platforms, enabling developers to harness the latest FSR enhancements and Frame Interpolation on the Xbox Series X/S consoles.

The improved AMD FidelityFX SDK 1.1.2 offers developers the following updates:

– Corrections for incorrect depth format conversion in the Vulkan backend.
– Adjusted dilated depth formats in GLSL shaders for FSR 3.
– Added a velocity factor to minimize pixel flickering during motion in FSR 3.
– Resolved issues with mip binding in the GDK backend.
– Fixed the DirectX 12 (DX12) intersection pass in the SSSR.
– Addressed Clang warnings.
– Relocated the SDK license file to the SDK directory.
– Enhanced ghosting streaks by using an ellipsoid color clamp instead of AABB in FSR 3.
– Upgraded effect and backend versions.
– Improved error reporting within the shader compiler tool.
– Incorporated support for a frame distortion texture in FSR 3.
– Fixed a memory leak in the DX12 backend during PSO creation.
– Various enhancements and optimizations to the Cauldron framework.

Additionally, AMD has introduced a new FSR 3.1.2 Frame Interpolation sample through the AMDFidelityFX_FSR3FrameInterpolation GDK. This sample supports native integration of FSR 3.1.2 within Microsoft’s Xbox and desktop ecosystems, providing developers with a robust tool for creating more immersive and visually appealing games. This release underscores AMD’s commitment to empowering game developers with cutting-edge technology and tools to enhance the gaming experience.
