Amazon Alexa+ Arrives in India With Hindi Support, Smarter Conversations, and Local App Integrations
Amazon has introduced Alexa+ in India, bringing its upgraded conversational AI assistant to users with support for both Hindi and English. The new version is designed to feel more natural, remember context during longer conversations, and handle more complex requests than the earlier Alexa experience.
Alexa+ is currently available in Early Access for customers across India. During this testing phase, users can try the assistant in Hindi and English, including the ability to switch between both languages in the middle of a sentence. This Hinglish-style interaction is especially important in India, where many users naturally mix Hindi and English in everyday conversations.
After the Early Access period ends, Amazon plans to offer Alexa+ for free to Prime members in India. Customers without a Prime subscription will be charged ₹2,000 per month.
The upgraded assistant comes with a more expressive voice and improved conversational abilities. Amazon says Alexa+ can manage multi-step tasks, making it more useful for daily routines. For example, users can ask it to order groceries through Amazon Now, control compatible smart home devices, play music, plan outings, or help with travel and dining-related tasks.
Alexa+ also brings deeper integration with popular India-focused services. It works with platforms such as Swiggy for food delivery, District for ticket bookings, MakeMyTrip and TripAdvisor for travel planning, and EazyDiner for restaurant reservations. For entertainment, the assistant supports music services including Amazon Music and JioSaavn.
Amazon first launched Alexa in India in 2017 with English support, later adding Hindi in 2019. The launch of Alexa+ marks a major step forward for the company as it aims to reach India’s massive Hindi-speaking audience. India has more than 600 million Hindi speakers, making local language support a key part of Amazon’s smart assistant strategy.
The company has also seen rising interest in connected home products in the country. While it has not shared exact sales figures, Amazon says its smart home device category in India has grown by 20% compared with last year.
Alexa+ was first announced as a generative AI-powered assistant in 2025 and later rolled out to users in the United States. Amazon has since expanded the upgraded assistant to several international markets, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Germany, with language and regional support tailored to each market.
With Alexa+ now available in India, Amazon is focusing on more natural conversations, local services, and bilingual interactions to make its smart assistant more useful for Indian households. The combination of Hindi support, contextual understanding, and app integrations could make Alexa+ a stronger competitor in the rapidly growing AI assistant space.
