Dangbei is about to make fishkeeping far less intimidating for beginners. The company’s new Smart Fish Tank 2S Ultra is set to launch in China on April 26, 2026, and it’s positioned as an AI-powered aquarium that can handle most of the daily work that typically turns people away from owning fish.
The big idea is simple: automate the parts of aquarium care that are easiest to get wrong. Instead of manually figuring out how much to feed, when to adjust lighting, or whether the water conditions are drifting into dangerous territory, the Smart Fish Tank 2S Ultra aims to manage those tasks on its own. For the owner, that could mean fish care finally becomes closer to “set it up and enjoy” rather than “constantly test, tweak, and worry.”
At the center of the system is AI-based image recognition. The tank is designed to identify the fish inside by species, while also estimating how many there are and how large they are. With that information, it can automatically adjust key settings like feeding routines, lighting behavior, water flow, and sterilization. Dangbei also says the aquarium monitors water quality in real time and can send warnings when something looks off—an especially useful feature for new fishkeepers who may not recognize early signs of trouble.
On the hardware side, the Smart Fish Tank 2S Ultra includes a dual-filter setup, plus two pumps that support water circulation and oxygen supply. An automatic feeder is built in as well, and it’s claimed to hold enough food for up to 180 days, which could be a major perk for busy owners or anyone who travels. Connectivity features include Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth, letting users monitor and control the aquarium remotely through a companion app.
Lighting is another area where the tank tries to go beyond the basics. Dangbei uses 45 LEDs integrated into the lid, described as full-spectrum lighting. That matters not only for making ornamental fish look their best, but also for supporting aquatic plants, which are often part of popular beginner-friendly aquascapes.
In terms of size, this is a compact aquarium: 8.5 gallons (32 liters). That capacity naturally limits what you should keep, and it’s best suited to small, hardy freshwater setups. Fish like guppies could be a good match, or a single betta, potentially with additions like dwarf shrimp and snails depending on compatibility and stocking levels. It’s also worth noting that there’s no clear sign the system is intended for saltwater use, so reef or marine fish fans may need to look elsewhere.
Smart aquariums aren’t entirely new, but Dangbei’s approach stands out by pushing into AI fish recognition rather than focusing only on app control. In China, the Dangbei Smart Fish Tank 2S Ultra will go on sale starting April 26, 2026, with a listed price of 599 yuan (around $88). For now, there’s no confirmed word on whether it will be released in Europe or North America.
