AI Boom Turns Taiwan’s King Slide Works Into a Surprise Billion-Dollar Winner
The artificial intelligence boom is creating fortunes in unexpected places. While most attention goes to chipmakers, GPU suppliers, and cloud giants, one Taiwanese company has found itself at the center of the AI data center expansion for a very different reason: server rails.
King Slide Works, best known for making furniture hardware such as cabinet hinges and drawer slides, has become a key supplier of the heavy-duty rails used to install servers inside AI data centers. These components may seem simple, but in modern AI infrastructure, they play a critical role. AI servers are heavier, more expensive, and more complex than traditional systems, making durable and reliable mounting hardware essential.
The company’s move from furniture fittings into server rail systems has turned into a highly profitable business. King Slide now reportedly controls about 80% of the premium server rail market, giving it a powerful position as demand for AI servers continues to rise worldwide.
That demand has delivered a dramatic boost to the company’s market value. King Slide’s shares have jumped nearly 280% since the start of the year, helping founder Lin Tsung-chi become Taiwan’s richest person. His fortune is now estimated at approximately $20.2 billion.
The company’s financial performance shows just how valuable this niche has become. King Slide’s gross margin reached 87% in the most recent quarter, a sharp increase from roughly 50% a few years earlier. That level of profitability is even higher than some of the biggest names in the AI supply chain, including leading chip and semiconductor manufacturers.
At first glance, server rails may not sound like a major part of the AI revolution. However, as AI systems become denser and more powerful, the hardware supporting them must also evolve. Modern AI servers can be extremely heavy due to advanced processors, custom chips, liquid cooling systems, and high-density rack designs. If a rail system fails, the risk to costly equipment can be significant.
King Slide says its current success is the result of more than 20 years of engineering and product development. The company has built a reputation for precision, strength, and reliability, which has helped it become a preferred supplier for high-end server installations.
The future could bring even more opportunity. As AI data centers continue to expand, demand is expected to grow for specialized rack hardware designed for heavier and more complex server configurations. Liquid cooling, custom accelerators, and next-generation AI systems may all require more advanced rail and mounting solutions.
King Slide is also expanding production in the United States to better serve North American customers building AI infrastructure. This move could help the company stay close to major cloud computing and data center operators as they scale up their AI capacity.
Still, competition may increase. Some major technology companies are expected to diversify their supplier base to reduce reliance on a single provider. Analysts believe King Slide’s share of certain AI server rail orders could slip slightly next year, though the company is still expected to remain a dominant player in the market.
For now, King Slide Works stands as one of the most interesting success stories of the AI era. Its rise proves that the artificial intelligence boom is not only benefiting chipmakers and software companies. It is also creating major opportunities for specialized manufacturers that provide the physical infrastructure needed to power the next generation of computing.
