AI App Developed by Ex-Etsy Product Manager Aims to Support New Parents

Amanda DeLuca, a seasoned product manager, has introduced a new parenting management app called Riley, driven by her personal journey through the anxieties of parenthood and insights from other families. With an impressive track record at tech giants like Google, Nerdwallet, Eventbrite, and Etsy, Amanda embarked on her most challenging role yet after becoming pregnant three years ago. Despite diligently absorbing a wealth of parenting knowledge with her husband, who is also a product manager, they found themselves unprepared when their daughter was born. The existing resources they turned to on the internet were insufficient, sparking the idea for Riley.

Riley, now in its public beta phase, simplifies the complexities of parenting with two main features. It allows parents to effortlessly track key activities such as sleep, diaper changes, vaccinations, and feeding. The app also provides AI-driven insights, offering recommendations on optimal nap times and explanations for changes in sleep patterns. In addition, Riley offers an AI-powered answer platform, delivering personalized guidance using a combination of parental data and carefully curated medical and psychological studies, supported by an expert clinical board.

What sets Riley apart is its commitment to integrating various data points provided by parents with science-backed research. Amanda emphasized the app’s stringent standards for data quality, ensuring a robust and reliable knowledge base.

Currently, Riley offers a straightforward onboarding process, gathering information about the parents, their children, their parenting approach, and other caregivers. Looking ahead, the app plans to enhance its onboarding process for even more tailored recommendations. As the relationship between parent and child evolves, Riley will adapt by collecting data on emerging personality traits for deeper insights.

During its public beta, Riley operates under a subscription model with a 30-day free trial and tiered pricing: $14.99 monthly, $11.99 per month for a quarterly plan, or $9.99 per month annually. Later this year, Riley plans to exit public beta and introduce specialized training guides, such as sleep coaching for infants, offering parents crucial resources as they navigate parenting.

Riley is part of a broader trend in technology, where apps are leveraging data to create personalized user experiences. It competes with similar platforms like the sleep-tracking app Huckleberry and family management app Maple. To fuel its growth, Riley secured $3.1 million in seed funding led by True Ventures, with participation from Flybridge and Next Wave NYC. Natasha Sharma from True Ventures, who is joining Riley’s board, emphasized the app’s potential to provide science-backed, personalized parental advice—a perfect solution amidst the overwhelming information available online.

In a world saturated with content, Riley emerges as a beacon for parents seeking reliable, tailored advice to help their families thrive. Amanda DeLuca’s own parenting experiences have paved the way for a transformative solution, inspiring families to turn to a platform where guidance evolves as they do, ensuring they never feel lost in the maze of conflicting information again.
