2027 BYD Seal 07 Debuts With Low Price, Long Range, and Faster Charging Than Tesla Model 3
BYD has introduced the 2027 Seal 07 sedan, and its pricing may be one of the biggest shocks in the electric car market this year. The second-generation Seal 07 arrives with a lower starting price than its predecessor while offering strong range, rapid charging, generous space, and performance figures that put serious pressure on the Tesla Model 3.
The biggest headline is the starting price. The 2027 BYD Seal 07 begins at 139,900 yuan, which is around $20,830. That makes it significantly cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 in China, where the base rear-wheel-drive Model 3 costs about $35,300. In other words, BYD’s new sedan is more than one-third cheaper while still delivering competitive, and in some areas superior, specifications.
BYD will offer the new Seal 07 in five trims, with prices reaching 172,900 yuan, or under $26,000. Buyers can choose between two plug-in hybrid models and three fully electric versions. The all-electric Seal 07 starts at 149,900 yuan, or roughly $22,300, making it one of the most aggressively priced electric sedans in its class.
Range is another major selling point. The top electric version of the 2027 BYD Seal 07 is rated at up to 775 km on the CLTC cycle, thanks to a 77 kWh BYD Blade 2 battery. By comparison, the base Tesla Model 3 RWD in China is rated at 634 km on the same testing cycle. Tesla does offer a Model 3 Long Range RWD with up to 830 km of CLTC range, but that version costs 269,500 yuan, making it far more expensive than the Seal 07.
While the CLTC range standard is known for being optimistic compared with real-world driving results, the Seal 07’s figures still suggest strong everyday usability. If evaluated under stricter standards, it would likely remain comfortably above the 300-mile mark, making it a practical option for long-distance driving as well as city commuting.
Performance is also impressive for the price. The electric Seal 07 uses a single rear motor producing 245 kW, or 329 horsepower, and 365 Nm of torque. That allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. This makes it quicker than the base Tesla Model 3 RWD, although Tesla’s more expensive Long Range RWD version still has an advantage in acceleration.
The Seal 07 is also larger than the Model 3. It measures 5,080 mm in length and has a 2,960 mm wheelbase, giving it a more spacious cabin and a more premium road presence. Practicality is another strength, with a 618-liter rear trunk and a 160-liter front trunk. A heat pump is included as standard, improving efficiency in colder weather.
Charging speed could be one of the Seal 07’s most important advantages. The sedan supports BYD’s flash-charge megawatt powertrain architecture, allowing the battery to be charged to 97% in just nine minutes under ideal conditions. That is a major selling point, especially when compared with the Tesla Model 3, which still uses a 400V platform.
Higher trims bring even more premium technology. The top electric version of the Seal 07 includes BYD’s DiSus-M magnetorheological adaptive damping system. This suspension technology is designed to deliver a smoother and more refined ride, and BYD claims it is comparable to systems found in luxury vehicles costing far more.
Tesla still holds an advantage in driver-assistance software, particularly with its Full Self-Driving features, although availability and effectiveness vary by market. The most affordable Seal 07 comes with conventional cruise control, but higher trims include BYD’s God’s Eye C driver-assistance package at no extra cost. Buyers can also choose a more advanced LiDAR-based God’s Eye B system as an option.
With its low price, long range, fast charging, spacious body, and strong equipment list, the 2027 BYD Seal 07 looks like one of the most serious Tesla Model 3 rivals yet. BYD is not just competing on value anymore; it is now offering technology and performance that challenge some of the best-known electric sedans on the market.
If BYD brings this level of pricing and specification to more global markets, the Seal 07 could become a major force in the electric vehicle segment. For now, its launch in China sends a clear message: the competition in affordable electric sedans is getting tougher, and Tesla may have a lot more to worry about.
