Tales of Kenzera: Zau

Zau Dev Open to Feedback, Denounces Racially Charged Remarks

Abubakar Salim, the creative mind behind “Tales of Kenzera: Zau,” has found himself at the center of a renewed debate about his game due to its ties with Sweet Baby Inc. Originally released in April, this game is a metroidvania adventure deeply rooted in Bantu culture.

However, the game’s reception took a hit when Sweet Baby Inc, a narrative consultancy firm linked to past controversies, became involved. This firm was previously mired in a dispute that led to a backlash against Steam user Kabrutus, who later changed the name of their curator to “DEI Detected,” referring to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

In response, Salim has openly acknowledged that some players might choose not to engage with his game because of Sweet Baby Inc’s involvement. However, he expressed his concern over the barrage of racist comments he has received since the game’s release. Salim was quick to clear up misconceptions, emphasizing that not purchasing the game due to its association with Sweet Baby Inc or simply not liking its aesthetics is entirely understandable and acceptable.

Salim’s transparent approach to addressing concerns has drawn a diverse response, resonating with both critics and supporters across the cultural conversation.

“Tales of Kenzera: Zau” made its debut on April 23rd, available on platforms including Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PS5.
