Google has announced the introduction of a new video quality option for YouTube TV termed ‘1080p Enhanced’. This offering promises to deliver an elevated viewing experience compared to the standard 1080p60 quality, primarily from a higher bitrate perspective. This upgrade is touted as the premium video quality at a 1080p resolution on the platform. While 4K resolution also exists on YouTube TV providing even sharper visuals, the 1080p Enhanced option is set to improve the picture quality for viewers without the need for 4K capability.
The update will be available on compatible 4K streaming devices that have received the latest updates. However, Google has not provided a complete list of channels that will support the 1080p Enhanced quality. Despite this, many users on online forums like Reddit have noticed that several channels which originally broadcast in 1080p60, among them CBS, Paramount, Syfy, and TNT, already seem to be streaming in the new enhanced quality. Google states that users can access channels in 1080p Enhanced by adjusting their settings to the new preference.
In other Google updates surrounding video quality, the tech giant launched a ‘1080p Premium’ option on the main YouTube platform in April 2023, which is restricted to YouTube Premium subscribers. Much like its counterpart on YouTube TV, this premium option offers a high bitrate for superior video clarity. Google proudly shared that together, YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium have surpassed a combined subscriber milestone of over 100 million users. Additionally, there is upcoming support for Apple Vision Pro users, as Google plans to release a dedicated YouTube app for this device.
For fans of Google’s video services, the company continues to expand and enhance its offerings catering to the rising demand for higher resolutions and video quality. Whether watching on YouTube TV or utilizing YouTube Premium benefits, viewers now have more options to enjoy content at a quality that suits their preferences.
