Yelp, the prominent crowd-sourced business review platform, has unveiled a suite of new AI-driven features designed to enhance user experience through improved discovery and connection capabilities. At the forefront is the introduction of Review Insights, an innovative tool that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to analyze user reviews. By evaluating various business aspects such as food quality, service, ambiance, and more, Review Insights produces a sentiment score ranging from 1 to 100, offering users a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of a business’s overall standing.
Currently available exclusively on iOS, Review Insights is focused on restaurants, food, and nightlife firms, with plans for expansion into additional categories in the upcoming year. Craig Saldanha, Yelp’s Chief Product Officer, highlighted the role of Large Language Models (LLMs) in identifying themes within reviews, even when specific keywords aren’t present. This means that phrases like “drinks came out quickly” would automatically associate with service aspects despite the absence of explicit mentions.
In addition to Review Insights, Yelp is enhancing its platform with more dynamic visuals, including autoplay videos and a broadened range of reviews, trending searches, and popular business listings. Recognitions are also being introduced, acknowledging reviewers across 220 categories. Reviewers who complete three reviews in a single category within a year will be eligible for one of 170 different recognitions, adding a gamified element to user participation.
Yelp’s announcements also include updates to its AI assistant feature. This update provides users with the option to communicate directly with professionals offering services such as electrical work, moving, and cleaning, all while ensuring user privacy by masking phone numbers. These improvements reflect Yelp’s commitment to leveraging technology to make the platform more intuitive and user-friendly, encouraging a deeper connection between businesses and their patrons.
