The Xiaomi Redmi AX5400 is the latest high-performance gaming router that offers the option to create a mesh network. This model is now accessible to European customers, despite a few hurdles in the purchasing process.
Originally covered some time ago, the Redmi AX5400 is designed for avid gamers and those interested in establishing a mesh network. While it is now almost globally available, purchases are currently unofficial. Customers can acquire the router through online platforms such as Banggood or AliExpress, with prices ranging roughly between 80 and 100 euros. Delivery times vary, with some retailers promising shipping within 10 days. Although value-added tax will be handled by the retailer through the IOSS system, it should be noted that potential returns might be complicated, and software compatibility isn’t guaranteed.
Sporting a size of 241 x 182 x 228 millimeters, this router supports WiFi 802.11ax and can function on both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies. Data transfer is capped at 574 Mbit/s and 4,808 Mbit/s on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands respectively, under ideal conditions. The four external antennas are designed to ensure quality connections and high transfer rates even in suboptimal environments, and the router supports technologies such as MU-MIMO and QFDMA.
Internally, the router is equipped with a Qualcomm IPQ5018 SoC and 512 megabytes of RAM, claiming to handle up to 248 devices simultaneously. The AX5400 features an Ethernet port that supports data transfer rates up to 2.5 Gbit/s along with several Gigabit Ethernet connections. To aid devices requiring increased bandwidth, two Ethernet ports can be configured for aggregation, which is especially useful for devices like network storage.
Setting up a mesh system is streamlined with other compatible routers, offering the flexibility of both wired and wireless connections. The router is also designed to enhance gaming experiences through traffic prioritization, and offers unique acceleration benefits for Xiaomi smartphone users. The included app provides control over router settings, and users can enjoy the added aesthetic of RGB lighting.
As the availability of Xiaomi routers expands, consumers have the opportunity to access them locally and not just rely on imports. With the strong feature set catered towards gaming and high connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi AX5400 is poised to be an attractive option for tech enthusiasts and professional users alike.
