Windows 11 KB5095093 Preview Introduces Powerful Point-in-Time Recovery

Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 11 KB5095093 Preview Update With Point-in-Time Restore and Recycle Bin Fix

Microsoft has released the optional Windows 11 cumulative update preview KB5095093 for devices running Windows 11 version 24H2 and version 25H2. The update began rolling out on June 23, 2026, and brings several useful improvements, including a new recovery feature, bug fixes, accessibility upgrades, and changes to how update pauses work.

After installing KB5095093, Windows 11 version 24H2 moves to OS Build 26100.8737, while Windows 11 version 25H2 moves to OS Build 26200.8737. Since this is an optional preview update, it does not include new security patches. Instead, it gives users early access to fixes and quality improvements that may become part of a future mandatory update.

One of the biggest additions in Windows 11 KB5095093 is Point-in-time restore, a new recovery option designed to make system repair easier. The feature creates automatic system snapshots that allow users to roll back Windows to a previous working state.

Unlike basic troubleshooting tools, Point-in-time restore is designed to restore the operating system along with user settings, installed apps, and files to a verified earlier condition. This can be especially helpful when a system becomes unstable after a software issue, configuration change, or file system problem.

For many users, this could reduce the need for a full Windows reinstall. Instead of spending hours backing up data, reinstalling apps, and reconfiguring settings, users may be able to return the system to a healthier state through Windows recovery settings.

KB5095093 also improves how Windows 11 handles paused updates. Users can now select a specific calendar date to pause quality updates for up to 35 days. Microsoft has also adjusted the behavior so users can extend the pause period again without immediately triggering a forced update check when the pause expires.

Another important fix in this preview update addresses a Recycle Bin issue introduced by the June 9, 2026 security update KB5094126. That earlier update caused the permanent deletion confirmation prompt to show internal system codes instead of normal file names.

With KB5095093 installed, the Recycle Bin once again displays standard file names when users permanently delete items. This makes the confirmation prompt clearer and helps prevent confusion when removing files from a Windows 11 device.

Microsoft has also changed the behavior of Widgets on the taskbar. The Widgets dashboard will no longer open automatically when the mouse pointer hovers over it. This should reduce accidental pop-ups for users who frequently move the cursor near the taskbar. In addition, generic news feeds have been removed, with the Widgets experience now focused more heavily on localized information.

Accessibility improvements are also part of this Windows 11 preview update. A new Screen Tint feature is now available in system settings, allowing users to apply customizable color overlays across the display. This can help reduce eye strain and make the screen more comfortable for people with light sensitivity or specific visual preferences.

The Magnifier tool has also been upgraded. Users can now type an exact zoom percentage directly into the Magnifier control bar, making it easier to set a precise zoom level instead of relying only on preset controls.

Bluetooth audio users may also notice a smoother experience after installing KB5095093. Microsoft has updated the Windows audio subsystem so the microphone mute state stays synchronized between the Windows audio mixer and the Hands-Free Profile used by Bluetooth headsets.

This is particularly useful for wireless headphones and earbuds with physical mute buttons. The change should help prevent situations where the headset and Windows show different mute states during calls, meetings, or voice chats.

Although KB5095093 is optional, it includes several practical fixes that may appeal to Windows 11 users affected by the Recycle Bin bug or those interested in trying the new recovery tools early. As with all preview updates, users who prefer maximum stability can wait until these improvements are included in a future standard release.

Microsoft is also continuing development work on future Windows 11 releases, with version 26H2 now appearing in early testing channels. The company is expected to continue focusing on low-disruption enablement packages, making it easier for businesses and IT teams to deploy major Windows updates with fewer interruptions.
