Valheim Finally Leaves Early Access This September

Valheim 1.0 Release Date Confirmed for September 9 With PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 Versions

Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Iron Gate have officially confirmed the full release date for Valheim, the popular Viking survival and crafting adventure. Valheim will leave early access and launch as version 1.0 on September 9.

The full release will arrive on Windows PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. On the same day, Valheim will also make its debut on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the Norse survival experience to even more players.

Valheim first launched in early access in 2021 and quickly became one of the standout survival games of the decade. Its mix of exploration, base-building, crafting, boss battles, co-op gameplay, and atmospheric Viking mythology helped it build a massive community across multiple platforms.

Iron Gate creative director Robin Eyre reflected on the journey from early access to full launch, saying that when development began, the team could hardly have imagined how many players would enter Valheim or how large the community would become. Eyre also described the move toward version 1.0 as both exciting and nerve-racking, especially as the team works to make the Deep North biome a fitting conclusion to the game’s long journey.

The Deep North will serve as Valheim’s final biome, introducing a harsh frozen region filled with ancient dangers, brutal weather, and mysterious threats. At first glance, the area may look like a beautiful icy wilderness, but players will quickly discover that survival in the far north will be anything but peaceful.

When adventurers arrive in the Deep North, they may be met by powerful snowstorms that hide the landscape ahead. Once the storm clears, the biome reveals frozen fields, snow-covered mesas, and abandoned settlements locked in icy silence. These deserted villages suggest that other Vikings once reached the region, but their fate is far from comforting.

Among the greatest dangers of the Deep North are the Gammeltrolls. According to the game’s lore, when trolls grow too old, they travel north and become part of the land itself, transforming into massive primordial guardians. These ancient giants will stand as some of the most intimidating enemies players have encountered in Valheim.

The danger does not end on the surface. Beneath the frozen ground, the Deep North is alive with hostile forces. The Elakingar, described as malicious creatures that dig tunnels deep below the earth, have already defeated Vikings who came before. Players exploring these underground areas will need to stay alert, as the Elakingar may not be the only horrors waiting in the dark.

Valheim’s 1.0 launch will also expand the game’s reach through full crossplay support. Players on PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to adventure together across the tenth Norse realm. This means friends can build settlements, hunt monsters, sail oceans, and face the Deep North no matter which platform they choose.

With its full release date now set, Valheim is preparing for one of its biggest milestones yet. The September 9 launch will not only mark the arrival of version 1.0, but also the beginning of a new chapter for players on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, the final biome and expanded platform support make this the most complete version of Valheim to date.
