Twitch is preparing to give its mobile app an extensive overhaul with an update set to roll out later this year. The update promises to transform the user experience by incorporating a range of new features, marking the first major changes since 2019.
The forthcoming update aims to modernize the Twitch mobile app interface by introducing the ability for creators to post short video stories. According to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy’s statement in an open letter, these short video stories will offer creators a new avenue for quick, engaging interactions with their audience. Additionally, the update will enable features like pinch-to-zoom on videos, which users have been anticipating for some time.
A significant introduction with this update is the Discovery Feed, which will act as the new main screen in the app. This feature will display a curated selection of live streams and clips that can be filtered, making it easier for users to find new creators to watch or to catch up with those they are already following.
In a move to enhance functionality for its community, Twitch is expanding mod tools to iOS devices by launching a Mobile Mod View, which was previously exclusive to desktop users. Also on the agenda is a rework of the subscription purchasing and management process and general optimizations for a better mobile user experience.
While the exact release date for the update hasn’t been disclosed, users can expect to see these new features by the end of the year. Twitch’s platform extends across Android and iOS devices, as well as other gaming hardware like the Steam Deck, PS5, Xbox, Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion GO, and more.
The Twitch community and those interested in the latest developments for one of the leading streaming platforms are advised to stay tuned for the upcoming changes. As the platform expands its functionalities, users can look forward to a more intuitive and rich browsing experience tailored to enhance content discovery and interactivity.
