Ulefone Unveils Rugged Smartphones with Night Vision, Infrared Imaging, and FLIR Thermal Cameras

Ulefone is expanding its rugged phone lineup with two new models designed for people who work, travel, or explore in tough environments: the Armor 27T Plus and the Armor 27T Pro Plus. Both smartphones lean hard into durability and specialty cameras, aiming to be practical tools on job sites and in the outdoors rather than just everyday handsets in a protective case.

Built to take a beating, the Armor 27T Plus and Pro Plus each weigh around 15.5 ounces and are engineered to survive drops from roughly 6.6 feet. They also carry serious protection ratings, including IP68 and IP69K for water and dust resistance, plus MIL-STD-810H durability testing. In other words, these phones are positioned for users who need a device that can handle mud, rain, vibration, and rough handling without immediately heading to the repair shop.

Where these two models differ most is performance hardware. The Armor 27T Pro Plus runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, while the Armor 27T Plus uses the MediaTek Helio G99. Aside from that, the core experience is similar: both phones feature a 6.78-inch display with a 1080 x 2460 resolution, along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage—plenty for apps, photos, offline maps, and work files.

Ulefone also includes an unusually flexible slot setup. Both devices support storage expansion via microSD, and they can do it even when using two SIM cards, thanks to a dedicated three-slot layout. For travelers, field workers, or anyone juggling work and personal numbers, that’s a genuinely useful convenience.

The headline feature, though, is imaging that goes beyond standard smartphone photography. Ulefone is highlighting an upgraded FLIR thermal imaging system, listed as version 3.5 instead of 2.5. The thermal camera captures images at 80 x 60 resolution and is said to detect temperature differences as small as 50 millikelvin. That kind of capability can help with tasks like spotting heat loss, checking equipment, or scanning for unusual temperature patterns in low-visibility conditions. It’s still important to keep expectations realistic: non-contact temperature readings can vary, and Ulefone notes measurements may deviate by around 3°C.

Alongside the thermal camera, both phones include a 50MP main camera for regular photography and a dedicated night vision camera for seeing in dark environments where a typical phone camera struggles. Ulefone is also pitching support for niche, task-focused accessories, including options like an endoscope, which can be handy for inspections in tight spaces.

One more practical benefit for rugged users is power: the Armor 27T (Pro) Plus series is equipped with a large battery, reinforcing the idea that these devices are meant to run longer in the field, away from chargers.

Availability may vary by region, and these new models may not be widely stocked at major retailers yet. Still, with a mix of rugged certification, expandable storage with dual SIM support, thermal imaging, and night vision, the Ulefone Armor 27T Plus and Armor 27T Pro Plus are shaping up to be compelling picks for anyone specifically shopping for a rugged smartphone with thermal camera functionality.
