Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB rumored for CES 2027, but availability may be extremely limited
Nvidia may be preparing a major shake-up for its GeForce RTX 50 series lineup, with new rumors suggesting that the company could introduce a GeForce RTX 5080 equipped with 24 GB of VRAM at CES 2027 in January.
The rumored graphics card is attracting attention because it could arrive after reports that Nvidia has stopped production of the GeForce RTX 5090 and the current GeForce RTX 5080 desktop GPUs. If accurate, this would suggest Nvidia is preparing to refresh the high-end segment with a new model positioned between the existing RTX 5080 and the flagship RTX 5090.
However, the launch situation appears to be far from straightforward.
According to recent claims from a known hardware leaker, Nvidia may announce the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB at CES 2027, but the card might not be widely available at launch. In fact, the GPU is rumored to be a “paper launch,” meaning it could be officially revealed without meaningful retail stock.
That possibility has gained more weight because board partners have reportedly not yet received the necessary design documents from Nvidia to begin manufacturing custom RTX 5080 24 GB models. If add-in board partners are still waiting for final specifications and production guidance, it would be difficult for a full retail release to happen immediately after the announcement.
This means Nvidia could use CES 2027 to confirm the RTX 5080 24 GB and generate excitement, while actual availability may arrive later, or remain extremely limited for some time.
The most interesting part of the rumor is the possible pricing. The GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB could reportedly launch with an official price near $1,500, placing it close to the original pricing territory of the RTX 5090. If supply is limited, real-world prices could climb much higher, especially if demand from gamers, creators, AI users, and workstation builders is strong.
A 24 GB RTX 5080 would be especially appealing for users who need more memory for demanding workloads. Modern games with high-resolution texture packs, 4K and 8K content creation, AI model work, 3D rendering, and video editing can all benefit from increased VRAM. While the standard RTX 5080 is already expected to be a powerful graphics card, a 24 GB version would make it more attractive to enthusiasts who want extra memory without necessarily moving to a flagship-class GPU.
Still, everything surrounding the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB remains unconfirmed. Nvidia has not officially announced the card, its specifications, pricing, or release date. The rumored CES 2027 reveal, the possible $1,500 price tag, and the limited-stock launch scenario should all be treated as speculation for now.
If Nvidia does unveil the RTX 5080 24 GB at CES 2027, it could become one of the most talked-about graphics cards of the show. But unless retail availability improves, many buyers may find themselves watching another high-demand GPU launch from the sidelines.
