President Donald Trump has shown his willingness to delay a ban on TikTok yet again, reflecting an ongoing saga around the popular app’s future in the U.S.
In a recent interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump mentioned that if a deal to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to American owners isn’t reached by the current June 19 deadline, he’s open to granting more time.
“Perhaps I shouldn’t say this, but I have a little warm spot in my heart for TikTok,” Trump admitted, revealing a softer side towards the app.
Last year, Congress stipulated that TikTok must be sold if its parent company, ByteDance, wishes to avoid a ban. When the initial ban took effect in January, Trump intervened by allowing a 90-day delay, expressing interest in a joint venture that includes U.S. ownership.
As the next deadline approached in April, Trump extended the period by another 75 days, pointing out that the Chinese government’s displeasure over reciprocal tariffs could complicate negotiations.
