The Google Pixel 8 Pro set the pace as the first smartphone equipped with on-device generative AI. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series arrived shortly after, offering a larger suite of AI tools. However, the Pixel 8 Pro’s AI features, although fewer, provide unique and practical benefits.
Among the Pixel 8 Pro’s standout AI features is Recorder Summarize, a tool designed to transcribe lengthy audio recordings and provide an AI-generated synopsis of the covered topics. Similarly, Magic Compose, found within Google Messages, harnesses generative AI to help craft textual content.
Another innovative feature is Gboard Smart Reply, which leverages generative AI to forecast the next message in your chat. It analyzes the dialogue context to offer a fitting reply suggestion.
Gboard Smart Reply Expands Its Reach to Additional Messaging Platforms
Originally, Gboard Smart Reply was paired exclusively with WhatsApp, which given WhatsApp’s extensive user base, wasn’t shocking. Now, non-WhatsApp users have cause for celebration, as compatibility has been extended.
Two surprising messaging apps have found themselves integrated with Gboard Smart Reply: Line and KakaoTalk. While there are larger messaging platforms that might have been prioritized, these two apps serve their respective user demographics substantially. Line provides a telemedicine platform, offering video consultations and payments for medical appointments. KakaoTalk is a beloved messaging service in Korea, boasting a robust 53 million monthly active users.
While it’s unclear which apps will next benefit from Gboard Smart Reply, these initial steps are promising signs of Google’s commitment to expanding its AI reach across various platforms.
