Tencent has unveiled Hunyuan 3D 3.0, a major leap forward for AI-generated 3D content. The new release claims three times the accuracy of its predecessor and supports resolutions up to a 1536×1536×1536 voxel grid—amounting to roughly 3.6 billion voxels. That horsepower translates into cleaner geometry, richer detail, and more believable characters and objects right out of the box.
At the heart of Hunyuan 3D 3.0 is a layered workflow Tencent calls 3D-DiT hierarchical carving. Instead of trying to form a complete model in a single pass, the system builds in stages—starting with the overall shape, then progressively refining structure, proportions, and fine details. This stepwise approach helps eliminate common AI modeling pitfalls like warped facial features, awkward body proportions, and rigid, unnatural poses.
Occlusion handling is another standout. The model is better at inferring hidden geometry when parts of an object are obscured or turned away from the camera, reducing the gaps and illogical structures that often appear in automated 3D generation. Texturing has been overhauled as well: materials now adhere more faithfully to the underlying form, so fabrics drape more naturally, skin aligns with body contours, and surfaces feel integrated rather than painted on. For artists and developers, that means fewer hours spent fixing seams, stretching, and misalignment before assets can go into production.
Hunyuan 3D 3.0 is available free on Tencent’s platform, complete with an API for integrating the model into custom pipelines and tools. For teams that need a deeper toolset, Tencent is piloting Hunyuan 3D Studio, a production-focused suite that adds essentials like UV mapping, rigging, and skinning. The studio edition is currently invite-only. Looking ahead, an open-source variant called Hunyuan 3D Omni is planned to give researchers and enterprise users more control over generation and customization, a move that could make the technology especially attractive for industrial and academic applications.
