Tecno Pova 8 5G launched in India with 8,000mAh battery, 144Hz display, and Alive Matrix design
Tecno has introduced its latest mid-range 5G smartphone in India, the Tecno Pova 8 5G. Positioned as the successor to the Pova 7, the new model brings a few eye-catching features, including a much larger battery, a high-refresh-rate display, and a unique dot-matrix-style display built into the rear camera island.
One of the biggest talking points of the Tecno Pova 8 5G is its new Alive Matrix display. This small dot-matrix panel sits inside the third lens area of the rear camera module and adds a visual notification element to the phone’s design. It gives the device a more futuristic look and is likely aimed at users who want a smartphone that stands out from typical mid-range designs.
Under the hood, the Tecno Pova 8 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset. The processor is built on a 6nm process and is designed to deliver efficient 5G performance for everyday use, gaming, streaming, and multitasking. However, compared to the previous Pova 7, which featured the Dimensity 7300 Ultimate chip, this new processor may feel like a step down for users focused purely on performance.
To support gaming and longer usage sessions, Tecno has added a 15,000mm² graphite cooling sheet. The company says this cooling layer helps manage heat and keep the phone running at stable temperatures during gaming or heavy use.
The display remains one of the stronger features of the Tecno Pova 8 5G. The phone comes with a 6.76-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD 1080p resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. This high refresh rate should make scrolling, animations, and supported games feel smoother, especially for users upgrading from standard 60Hz or 90Hz displays.
For photography, the Tecno Pova 8 5G features a 50MP Sony Lytia 600 rear camera sensor. It supports 2x in-sensor zoom and comes with autofocus, giving users a capable main camera for daily shots, portraits, and social media content. On the front, the device includes a 13MP selfie camera for video calls, selfies, and face unlock support.
The biggest upgrade over the previous model is the battery. Tecno has equipped the Pova 8 5G with a massive 8,000mAh battery, a clear improvement over the 6,000mAh unit found in the Pova 7. This should make the phone appealing to power users, gamers, travelers, and anyone who wants a device that can last longer between charges.
Charging support is also generous for the segment. The Tecno Pova 8 5G supports 45W wired charging, 30W wireless charging, and 10W reverse charging. The addition of wireless charging is notable, as it is still not very common in many mid-range smartphones.
Other features include an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and MIL-STD 810H certification for added durability. These features help make the Pova 8 5G a more practical option for users who want a large-battery phone with extra protection for everyday use.
Tecno is offering the Pova 8 5G in four color options: Arc White, Graphite Black, Helios Orange, and Echo Green. The phone is available in two configurations. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model is priced at INR 30,000, while the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant costs INR 32,000.
The Tecno Pova 8 5G is now available for pre-order in India, with open sales scheduled to begin on June 18. With its huge battery, 144Hz display, wireless charging, and distinctive Alive Matrix design, the phone is clearly aimed at buyers looking for a stylish mid-range 5G smartphone with long-lasting endurance.
