The gaming handheld scene has truly evolved in 2024, with a spectrum of fascinating devices reflecting this growth. From the premium ASUS ROG Ally X to budget-friendly options such as the Anbernic RG35XX SP, the market is saturated with options for every gaming enthusiast. Enter Tecno’s latest innovation, the Pocket Go, now available on Kickstarter. Unlike conventional gaming handhelds, the Pocket Go stands out with a unique design and impressive specs.
Tecno first introduced the Pocket Go at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in February, sparking interest with its distinctive look and powerful performance features. It made another appearance at IFA 2024 in September, further building anticipation, although details regarding its price and availability were kept under wraps until now.
The Pocket Go operates on Windows 11 and is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS APU with a Radeon 780M integrated GPU. It comes with LPDDR5-6400 RAM and M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 storage capabilities, promising a seamless gaming experience. A significant 50 Wh battery with 65 W fast charging ensures extended play sessions.
In terms of connectivity, the device includes two USB Type-C ports and a UHS-II MicroSD card reader. Designed for enhanced control, it features Hall effect analog sticks and triggers along with an Xbox-style ABXY button layout. The Pocket Go is housed in a sleek, lightweight design, weighing 550 grams and measuring a compact 181.7 x 129.7 x 67.4 mm.
Enhancing the Pocket Go experience are the innovative Pocket Vision VR glasses. These high-quality glasses boast 1080p resolution at 60 Hz with Micro OLED displays, built-in speakers, a headphone jack, and a myopic adjustment wheel. Despite their cutting-edge technology, the glasses feature a fixed USB Type-C port for connectivity.
The Pocket Go, complete with VR glasses, is currently available for backing on Kickstarter. The package starts at approximately $869 and includes 512 GB storage with 16 GB RAM, while a more powerful variant with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage is priced at $1,049. For those interested in the glasses alone, Tecno offers them separately for $349. Shipping for both products is slated for December 2024, with a price increase expected for retail sales in November.
Tecno’s venture into the gaming sphere with the Pocket Go is a bold move, promising a fresh take on gaming on-the-go, combined with immersive virtual reality capabilities.
