State of Decay 2

“State of Decay 2: Six Years of Evolution and Its Final Farewell”

The world of zombie survival games is crowded, but the State of Decay series has managed to build a dedicated fanbase. Unfortunately, fans of State of Decay 2 will need to brace themselves for some bittersweet news: support for the game is winding down as the developers shift their focus to the much-anticipated sequel, State of Decay 3.

According to the developers, post-launch updates and support for State of Decay 2 will conclude in late 2024. Over the past six-plus years, nearly 40 updates and expansions have rolled out, enriching the game with new maps, modes, characters, and much more. The team at Undead Labs shared their gratitude, saying, “Since 2018, we’ve had the honor of supporting State of Decay 2 with nearly forty updates and expansions. We poured our hearts into enhancing the experience based on your feedback and bug reports. We love making the game you love to play.”

While no new content updates or fixes will be coming to State of Decay 2, players can still engage with the in-game Bounty Broker, which will continue to cycle automatically. This is great news for those looking to achieve that elusive 100% completion.

The transition of focus to State of Decay 3 comes as little surprise. Originally announced in 2020, there’s been a trickle of updates and glimpses into what the next installment promises. “Our ambition is to make the greatest zombie survival sim in the franchise,” the developers stated. Concentrating resources on this goal means halting updates for its predecessor.

State of Decay 3 is currently in development for Windows PC and Xbox Series X, though an official release date remains under wraps. As anticipation builds, fans can look forward to what hopes to be the most immersive and comprehensive zombie survival experience in the series yet.
