Recently, SpaceX completed the deployment of the initial segment of its direct-to-cell constellation, consisting of approximately 330 Starlink satellites. As part of the initial rollout, T-Mobile is offering a beta version of Starlink’s service that allows for short messaging over satellite connections. Selected iPhone users participating in this beta trial have received notifications that they can begin utilizing Starlink satellite texting after updating to iOS 18.3.
T-Mobile emphasizes that the launch begins with “optimized” handsets, suggesting that Apple has been meticulously ensuring their devices meet the necessary criteria.
