Sony is gearing up to unveil its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VI, which is expected to sport an impressive triple 48 MP camera array according to recent leaks. Following the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series, all eyes are turning to Sony’s response, as speculations suggest that the Xperia 1 VI will make its debut shortly after Samsung’s new flagships.
The new details about the Xperia 1 VI reveal a major upgrade in the camera department. Unlike its predecessor, which combined a single 48 MP sensor with two 12 MP cameras, the upcoming model appears to boast a trio of 48 MP sensors, all featuring Exmor T technology suitable for mobile devices. This technology introduces a two-layer Transistor Pixel design expected to enhance image quality.
The leaked material divulges specifics about the camera sensors. One is reportedly a 1/1.4-inch sensor with a 1.12 μm pixel size and a large f/1.4 aperture. This sensor is said to include full-pixel dual-PD autofocus and offers 2x optical zoom capabilities.
Another one of the sensors is portrayed as a 1/2.7-inch unit boasting Sony’s 2×2 On-Chip Lens (OCL) technology. This technology is designed to improve aspects such as sensitivity, resolution, dynamic range, and speed. The leaked information implies that this sensor possesses an ultra-wide-angle lens with an adjustable focal length between 14-18 mm.
The third camera in the setup is described as sharing the same size as the second sensor. It also incorporates 2×2 OCL technology but is specifically geared as a telephoto lens. It is anticipated to provide 3x optical zoom along with 6x sensor crop zoom capabilities.
