Sony Closes Doors on Two Game Development Studios, Including Concord Creators

Sony has recently delivered surprising news to the gaming community with its decision to close two of its game development studios. One of the studios affected by this decision is Firewalk Studios, which had launched its first game, “Concord,” a PvP shooter that faced significant challenges right after its release. Unfortunately, “Concord” was met with unfavorable reviews and was discontinued only weeks after launching.

In the midst of numerous advancements for Sony’s PlayStation division this year, including the exciting launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro and the highly anticipated game, Astro Bot for the PS5, the closure of these studios marks a setback. The PS5 Pro is now available for pre-order, signaling Sony’s ongoing commitment to its console gaming lineup. However, facing the downfall of “Concord” proved a costly venture, leading to the unfortunate closure of Firewalk Studios.

Adding to the company’s gaming turbulence, Neon Koi, previously known as Savage Game Studios, has also been closed. Acquired in August 2022, Neon Koi was deep into developing a high-profile mobile live-service action game for Sony. Sadly, the game did not reach the release stage and has been shelved permanently.

Despite these setbacks, Sony reiterates its interest in tapping into the mobile gaming market. The company insists that mobile technology remains a crucial area for growth. It envisions achieving success by focusing on developing titles that reflect PlayStation Studio’s prestigious standards, with an aim to reach a broader audience worldwide.

As we await more details about the circumstances surrounding the closures of Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi, it’s clear that Sony remains determined to navigate the challenges of the gaming industry. This determination will likely shape their future strategies in mobile and console gaming, ensuring they continue to engage with an ever-evolving gaming landscape.
