Samsung’s SoC Business Faces Pressure as System LSI Chief Acknowledges Ongoing Losses
Samsung Electronics is facing continued challenges in its system-on-chip business, with Park Yong-In, president of the company’s System LSI Business under the Device Solutions division, reportedly acknowledging concerns during an internal briefing.
The comments stand out because Samsung rarely discusses weaknesses in its chip operations so openly. Park’s remarks suggest that losses from Samsung’s SoC segment remain a serious issue and continue to weigh on the broader System LSI business.
Samsung’s System LSI division is responsible for designing advanced semiconductor products, including mobile processors, image sensors, display driver chips, and other logic semiconductors. Among its most recognizable products are Exynos mobile chipsets, which have been used in various Galaxy smartphones over the years.
However, the global mobile processor market has become increasingly competitive. Rivals have pushed ahead with stronger performance, improved power efficiency, and deeper relationships with smartphone manufacturers. For Samsung, this has created pressure not only to improve chip design but also to restore confidence in its in-house processors.
