Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Chip Reportedly Exhibits Lukewarm Performance in Geekbench Tests

Qualcomm appears to be expanding its high-end chipset lineup with a rumored new variant known as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. This new information comes forth from a Geekbench score listing where a processor with the codename SM8635 was spotted sporting a unique CPU composition of 1+4+3. According to a Weibo tech insider, this SoC is indeed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, and it is poised to make its debut in future Realme and Redmi smartphones.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen series from Qualcomm has been somewhat enigmatic, with products that, despite similar names, have varied in performance. The Snapdragon 8 Gen series, however, has steered clear of such ambiguities with a straightforward yearly release of one flagship chip. Now, this pattern might be disrupted with the emergence of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

The specifications shared by a Weibo leaker reveal the chip to be equipped with a prime core clocking in at 3.01 GHz, accompanied by four performance cores at 2.61 GHz and three efficiency cores running at 1.84 GHz. The SoC is also suggested to include an Adreno 735 GPU with around 900 MHz frequency and is built using TSMC’s 4 nm manufacturing process, though the exact node details remain unspecified.

Initial Geekbench scores of 1,512 in single-core and 3,799 in multi-core tests place the alleged Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in a less-than-impressive light compared to expectations, which anticipated performance levels closer to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Instead, its early performance seems to align more with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It’s important to note, however, that these scores might improve after additional optimization and fine-tuning.

Furthermore, buzz from the rumor mill suggests this chip may also be featured in the upcoming Redmi Note 13 Turbo, offering a performance boost from its non-Turbo counterpart.

While the actual performance and features of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will only be confirmed upon its official launch and utilization in real-world scenarios, these early benchmarks provide a glimpse into what could be the next step in Qualcomm’s chipset offerings.

The mobile technology industry is always on the move, and for consumers and tech enthusiasts alike, the potential arrival of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 marks another exciting development. As the narrative around this new SoC unfolds, its implementation in devices from brands like Realme and Redmi will be eagerly awaited. Keep an eye out for more details as they emerge about Qualcomm’s evolving lineup of processors.
