Maximum Entertainment and Merge Games have confirmed that Smalland: Survive the Wilds is coming to Switch 2, with the miniature-scale survival adventure set to launch May 14 via the eShop.
Already available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, Smalland: Survive the Wilds drops players into a world where “Smallfolk” emerge after centuries underground to reclaim the Overland now that the giants have disappeared. You step in as part of the vanguard, exploring a vast open sandbox where everyday nature becomes towering, dangerous, and awe-inspiring at tiny size.
The game’s biggest hook is its perspective shift. Trees feel like skyscrapers, cracks in the earth turn into cavernous passages, and familiar environments like forests and swamps transform into sprawling biomes filled with hazards, strange ruins, and opportunities to scavenge. Exploration is tied closely to survival, pushing you to gather materials, craft essential gear, and carve out a foothold in an unforgiving wilderness.
Travel and combat are made more dynamic by letting you turn the ecosystem into your advantage. You can fight, tame, and ride a variety of creatures, using them as living vehicles to cross the world faster or reach areas that would otherwise be difficult to access. Whether you’re leaping across terrain with an insect mount or taking to the skies above the treetops, movement is designed to feel adventurous and vertical, not just ground-bound wandering.
For players who prefer teamwork, Smalland: Survive the Wilds supports multiplayer for up to 10 players. That means you can explore together, build shared settlements, and take on threats as a group—ideal for anyone who enjoys cooperative survival games where planning and roles (builder, fighter, explorer) make a real difference.
Base building and crafting also sit at the heart of the experience. You’ll scavenge and refine resources to construct encampments with multiple material tiers, progressing from wood to tougher options like stone and metal. You can settle in a favorite spot, or climb high and establish a more permanent home in the branches. Along the way, crafting expands beyond tools and structures into armor and upgrades, letting you tailor your character with resistances, abilities, and mobility options like gliding wings or a grappling hook for swinging through the environment.
Keeping you on your toes is a dynamic ecosystem built around changing conditions. Variable weather, including deadly storms, and shifting seasons require you to adapt your survival approach instead of relying on a single routine. Random events further help the world feel alive, adding unpredictability as you explore and expand.
Key features include a large open sandbox world experienced from a tiny perspective, solo play or up to 10-player multiplayer, creature taming and mounting for faster travel, aerial exploration options, portable Great Tree base building that can move with you to new servers, narrative quests and NPC encounters that reveal Smallfolk lore, dynamic weather and random events, and flexible upgrades that support different playstyles—whether you want to focus on combat, construction, or a mix of both.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds arrives on Switch 2 May 14, offering a fresh way to experience survival gameplay where the natural world becomes a massive frontier.
