Revamped Customization Features Arrive in Steam Beta

Valve has introduced exciting updates to the Steam client in its latest beta, offering users enhanced control and customization options. These changes aim to make the Steam experience more intuitive and user-friendly.

Released on June 7 and 8, the updates provide increased flexibility, particularly benefiting Steam Deck users. The revamped accessibility menu now allows adjustments to the UI size without relying on Windows scaling—perfect for those with visual impairments or larger screens. Additionally, the menu features several helpful options, including a high-contrast mode for better readability, reduced animations for users sensitive to motion, and UI annotations to support screen reader compatibility. These enhancements make Steam both more accessible and easier to navigate.

The in-game overlay has also been improved for high-DPI settings, tackling issues like font glitches and cut-off elements. However, some users have encountered problems, such as crashes or black screens when using the overlay with NVIDIA graphics cards. Valve clarified that these issues stem from the NVIDIA driver, not the beta update.

While many users have applauded the scalable UI and new features, some criticisms persist. Bugs in the overlay and unmet requests for features like a CPU temperature display and improved gyro support remain points of contention. Overall, these updates reflect Valve’s ongoing effort to refine the Steam experience, offering users more control and smoother navigation.
