Retroid Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 Get a 12GB RAM Upgrade as 8GB Models Sell Out
Retroid is giving two of its popular Android gaming handhelds a welcome hardware refresh. The Retroid Pocket 5 and Retroid Pocket Flip 2 are moving from 8GB of RAM to a new 12GB RAM configuration, offering users more memory for multitasking, emulation, Android gaming, and overall system performance.
The change comes shortly after the launch of the Retroid Pocket Nova, but this latest announcement is focused on updating existing handhelds rather than introducing entirely new models. Both the Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 originally launched with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Starting July 15, both devices will be sold in a new 12GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration.
Retroid says the 8GB RAM versions of the Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 are now out of stock and have been discontinued. That means the 12GB RAM model will become the standard version moving forward.
There is also good news for customers who already placed an order. According to Retroid, any unfulfilled orders for the Retroid Pocket 5 or Pocket Flip 2 will be automatically upgraded to the new 12GB RAM version at no additional cost. Orders placed before July 15 will also receive the upgraded model without paying the upcoming price increase.
The added RAM does come with slightly higher pricing for new orders after July 15. The Retroid Pocket 5 will rise from $199 to $209. The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 with the Snapdragon 865 processor will increase from $209 to $219, while the Dimensity 1100 version will move from $179 to $189.
While the storage remains unchanged at 128GB, the jump to 12GB of RAM should make these handheld gaming devices more appealing to buyers who want extra headroom for demanding apps, smoother switching between games, and better long-term usability. For retro gaming enthusiasts and Android handheld fans, the upgrade helps keep the Retroid Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 competitive in a fast-moving portable gaming market.
