Retroid is gearing up for the launch of its next-generation gaming handhelds, the Pocket 5 and the Pocket Mini, with several exciting upgrades inspired by community feedback.
Both devices will sport dual booting capabilities, allowing users to switch effortlessly between Android and Linux. The company has decided to fine-tune the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini before their release, addressing crucial aspects like RAM and operating systems.
Retroid has laid out its plan for these handheld consoles, revealing a staggered release schedule. The Pocket 5 will now be equipped with 8 GB of RAM, a significant boost from the originally planned 6 GB. However, the Pocket Mini will retain its 6 GB of RAM. Both devices will come with generous storage capacities.
In terms of software, the Pocket 5 will now ship with Android 13 instead of Android 10. This substantial upgrade in operating system aims to enhance the device’s performance and competitive edge, particularly against rivals like the AYN Odin2. While the Pocket Mini is initially set to launch with Android 10, Retroid has committed to upgrading it to Android 13 by the year’s end.
Mark your calendars, as Retroid will start accepting orders for both the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini at 01:00 UTC on September 10. The company plans to begin shipping the Pocket 5 by the end of October, following the Pocket Mini, which will start its pre-order fulfillments a month earlier.
