Reddit Rolls Out a TikTok-Style “For You” Feed to Boost Content Discovery
Reddit is changing the way users discover posts, communities, and conversations with the launch of a new “For You” feed. The platform is introducing two main feed options: “For You” and “Following,” giving users a choice between personalized recommendations and content from communities they already follow.
The new “For You” feed blends posts from joined communities with recommended content based on a user’s interests and activity. Reddit says the goal is to help people find relevant discussions, discover new communities, and engage with conversations they may not have found on their own.
Meanwhile, the “Following” feed keeps things more traditional. It only shows posts from communities a user has joined, offering a more focused experience for those who prefer to stay within their selected subreddits.
This update marks a major shift in Reddit’s homepage experience. While the platform has recommended posts from outside users’ subscribed communities before, the new design gives those recommendations a more prominent role by placing them inside a dedicated “For You” feed.
The move also reflects a broader trend across social media. Personalized, algorithm-driven feeds have become a major part of how people consume content online, with platforms increasingly relying on recommendation systems to keep users engaged. By adopting a similar approach, Reddit is aiming to encourage users to explore more of the platform instead of limiting their activity to familiar communities.
Reddit says the redesigned feed experience is intended to support connection, participation, and a stronger sense of belonging. The company believes that better discovery can lead users to new ideas, different perspectives, and communities that match their interests.
However, the change may not appeal to everyone. Some Reddit users prefer a cleaner feed that only includes posts from communities they have deliberately joined. For those users, recommended content mixed into the main experience may feel distracting or unnecessary. During earlier testing of the feature, some users reportedly shared frustration over the new layout.
To address this, Reddit will allow users to switch between the “For You” and “Following” feeds. The platform will also remember the last feed a user viewed, so they can return to that same experience the next time they open Reddit.
The new Reddit feed experience is rolling out globally over the next few weeks. As it reaches more users, it could significantly change how people browse the platform, discover communities, and take part in discussions.
