Queen’s Domain Revives Classic King’s Field-Inspired Dungeon Crawling on PC

Queen’s Domain brings retro first-person dungeon crawling to PC and consoles

Queen’s Domain, the new retro fantasy first-person action RPG from Freshly Baked Games and publisher Future Friends Games, launched on October 30, 2026, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Designed as a single-player adventure, the game leans heavily into old-school dungeon crawling, atmospheric exploration, and tense stamina-based combat inspired by classic fantasy RPGs such as King’s Field.

On Steam, Queen’s Domain is priced at $19.99, with a 15% launch discount available during launch week. For players who enjoy slow-burn exploration, mysterious worlds, and dangerous labyrinths filled with secrets, this could be one of the more interesting retro-style RPG releases of the year.

The story begins on the Isle of Neasied, where players wash ashore in search of their missing father. What starts as a personal journey quickly becomes something much darker, as the island reveals a maze-like world filled with ancient threats, hidden paths, powerful enemies, and unsettling secrets. Sinister forces are spreading across Neasied, and the sleeping Queen is beginning to awaken.

Rather than guiding players through a simple linear path, Queen’s Domain focuses on interconnected world design. The island is built to reward curiosity, with new routes, hidden chambers, and dangerous encounters waiting for those willing to explore. According to the developer, most players can expect at least 40 hours of gameplay, making it a sizable adventure for fans of classic dungeon-crawling RPGs.

Combat in Queen’s Domain is centered around stamina management, timing, and careful decision-making. Players must watch their stamina meter while attacking, dodging, and surviving enemy encounters. The system includes powerful charge attacks, weapon-specific special moves, and secondary throwing weapons that give players more tactical options in battle.

The game features more than 50 melee weapons that can be found, equipped, and upgraded throughout the journey. Each weapon type brings its own feel and combat approach, encouraging players to experiment with different playstyles. In addition, there are more than 20 types of throwing weapons, allowing for ranged strategies, enemy disruption, and additional flexibility during tougher fights.

Progression comes through experience points, leveling, and stat growth. Players can also increase their stats by eating food, adding another layer to character development. With more than 100 enemies, mini-bosses, and bosses scattered across the island, preparation and smart resource management are key to survival.

One of Queen’s Domain’s standout features is its traversal system, built around the Legendary Holy Sword Endu. This powerful weapon does more than serve as a tool for combat; it allows players to fly from platform to platform and cross large gaps. As players upgrade the sword, its flight capabilities improve, opening up new areas and making exploration more dynamic.

This Holy Sword mechanic helps separate Queen’s Domain from other retro-inspired dungeon crawlers. Instead of relying only on walking through corridors and unlocking shortcuts, players gain a sense of vertical movement and freedom as they navigate the island’s dangerous terrain.

Queen’s Domain is also verified for Steam Deck and Steam Machine, making it a strong option for players who prefer handheld or living-room PC gaming. A free demo has been available on Steam since December 4, 2025, and has earned a Very Positive rating from more than 850 user reviews. The demo includes the opening area, the first dungeon, and a boss fight, giving players roughly an hour of gameplay to sample the game’s atmosphere, combat, and exploration.

The official soundtrack is available at launch, and players on Steam can also pick up a bundle that includes both the game and soundtrack.

For fans of retro fantasy RPGs, first-person dungeon crawlers, and challenging action adventures, Queen’s Domain offers a nostalgic but fresh journey into a mysterious island filled with danger, discovery, and dark fantasy atmosphere. With its stamina-based combat, large weapon selection, interconnected world, and unique Holy Sword traversal, it aims to capture the spirit of classic dungeon exploration while adding its own identity.
