Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Refresh Could Arrive Before the Next-Gen Snapdragon X3 Series

Qualcomm appears to be preparing a refreshed version of its Snapdragon X2 processor lineup, potentially giving PC makers updated chip options before the company moves on to its next-generation Snapdragon X3 family.

The current Snapdragon X2 series is already available in multiple tiers, including Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, Snapdragon X2 Elite, and Snapdragon X2 Plus. Across the lineup, Qualcomm offers configurations that start at 6 CPU cores and scale up to 18 cores, targeting a wide range of Windows laptops and AI PCs.

While Qualcomm recently introduced entry-level C-Series chips at Computex 2026, those processors are separate from the Snapdragon X2 family. The newly spotted listings suggest that Qualcomm may instead be extending the life of its existing high-performance Snapdragon X2 platform with refreshed models.

According to newly surfaced details shared by hardware leaker Reptalica, Qualcomm has started listing several Snapdragon X2 Refresh configurations. These appear to be engineering sample chips rather than final retail products, but the use of “Refresh” branding strongly suggests that updated Snapdragon X2 processors are in development.

The refreshed chips reportedly use Qualcomm’s existing die configurations, known as Glymur, Mahua, and Kalambo. Rather than introducing entirely new silicon for the Snapdragon X3 series this year, Qualcomm may be refining its current Snapdragon X2 designs with improved performance, higher clock speeds, and better efficiency.

The spotted Snapdragon X2 Refresh configurations include several Mahua Refresh models, along with Glymur and Kalambo engineering samples. Some of the listed chips include 10-core and 12-core Mahua Refresh variants using LPDDR5X memory support. Glymur appears in multiple test versions, while Kalambo is also present in engineering sample form.

Based on the available information, Kalambo may use a similar die configuration to Mahua, while Glymur is expected to remain the higher-end flagship design built around its own silicon. However, exact specifications for the refreshed Snapdragon X2 processors have not yet been confirmed.

At this stage, it is unlikely that Qualcomm will exceed the current 18-core ceiling found in the Snapdragon X2 family. Instead, the company may focus on better binning, improved power behavior, faster CPU and GPU clocks, and platform-level optimizations. This approach would allow Qualcomm to deliver a more competitive laptop processor lineup without waiting for a fully new architecture.

A Snapdragon X2 Refresh would also make sense given the broader PC market situation. Several processor makers are expected to lean on refreshed product lines this year as the industry deals with memory and storage supply challenges. Refreshing an existing chip family allows companies to keep new devices moving through the market while avoiding the timing risks of a full platform transition.

If supply conditions improve around early 2027, the industry could see a stronger wave of next-generation PC processors. Intel is expected to bring its Nova Lake family to market, while AMD is preparing Medusa Point for future AI PCs. Qualcomm may choose to align its next major Snapdragon Elite launch with that competitive window, giving the eventual Snapdragon X3 series a better chance to stand out.

For now, the Snapdragon X2 Refresh looks like a practical mid-cycle update. It may not deliver a dramatic architectural leap, but it could still improve Qualcomm-powered laptops through stronger performance, better efficiency, and more product options for manufacturers.

If these refreshed Snapdragon X2 chips arrive before the Snapdragon X3 series, they could help Qualcomm maintain momentum in the AI PC and Windows-on-Arm market while preparing for a larger next-generation launch later on.
