Patreon to Raise Commission Rates for New Creators

Patreon, the well-known platform for creators to monetize their work, is revamping its pricing structure. As of now, creators choose between two plans: an 8% cut or a more premium 12% option. Most creators lean towards the 8% plan due to its popularity.

However, the new pricing strategy introduces a single universal tier, taking a 10% cut from creator earnings. This change will only affect those setting up new Patreon pages after August 4, 2025, so existing creators will continue under their current terms.

Patreon highlighted that it’s been six years since its last price update. Over this time, the platform has grown significantly, adding a variety of features beyond payment processing. These enhancements include media hosting, community-building tools, and content discovery options.

Despite the potential backlash against price increases, Patreon has a strong argument, having introduced valuable additions like native video hosting, live streaming, free memberships, digital goods sales, and gift subscriptions.

For those thinking about starting a Patreon account, now might be the perfect time to secure the current 8% rate before the changes take effect.
