“Outbound: Cozy Camper Game Smashes All Stretch Goals on Kickstarter”

From A Hat in Time to Summer in Mara, cozy games often achieve significant success on Kickstarter. Outbound is the latest addition to this genre, surpassing its initial Kickstarter funding goal by a large margin.

Initially set with a funding goal of $33,407, Outbound has already raised nearly $200,000 on Kickstarter, with almost two weeks still remaining to collect additional funds. It’s perhaps not surprising that players are eager for a light-hearted gaming experience amid the plethora of horror-themed independent games.

Outbound, a cozy camper-van exploration and crafting game, is in development for multiple platforms including Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PS4, and PS5. The game emphasizes sustainability, envisioning a near future where humanity has successfully tackled climate change and pollution, and where sustainable living is the norm. The game’s visuals include features like wind farms and lack any coal or oil mining, creating a hopeful world that some might describe as solarpunk, the optimistic counterpart to cyberpunk.

The game has clearly resonated with the Kickstarter community, achieving all its stretch goals. As a result, players will be able to enjoy the company of an animal companion during their journey.

Outbound is slated for a full release in January 2026, but backing the project on Kickstarter offers supporters early access to the game in the summer of 2025. Additional rewards for backers include the opportunity to design parts of the game and obtain unique skins.
