OnePlus Apologizes for ‘Meda’ Mishap in Watch 3, Provides Remedies

The launch of the OnePlus Watch 3 hasn’t been without its quirks, as the company recently admitted to a humorous typo on the back of its latest flagship smartwatch. Instead of the expected “Made in China,” some units sport the phrase “Meda in China.” While this might seem like a minor slip-up, OnePlus has addressed it head-on with an admirable blend of transparency and humor.

The Watch 3, an evolution of its predecessor, the Watch 2, prides itself on a host of advanced features. These include a 60-Second Health Check-In equipped with body temperature monitoring, a sleek titanium-alloy bezel, and a robust battery life promising up to five days of use on a single charge. Yet, in the hustle and bustle of launch preparation, a tiny text error slipped through the cracks.

Well-known tech influencer Marques Brownlee was quick to spot the error, and while it doesn’t impact the performance or efficiency of the Watch 3, OnePlus was swift in its response. The company jovially acknowledged the mistake through social media, posting, “We’ve meda mistake!” and offered reassurance by allowing customers to return their mistakenly labeled watches hassle-free.

However, there’s a silver lining for collectors. OnePlus hinted that these typo-ridden watches might increase in value over time due to their unintended ‘limited edition’ status. Despite this minor blip, the Watch 3’s appeal hasn’t diminished. In fact, the smartwatch has been selling briskly and was temporarily listed as out of stock on the brand’s US website.

For those still weighing their options, the previous model, the OnePlus Watch 2, is available for purchase on Amazon at a reduced price of $279.99 compared to the $329.99 price tag of the new Watch 3.

As OnePlus takes this minor setback in stride, it remains a standout example of how companies can turn a potential issue into a lighthearted and possibly profitable moment for both the brand and its consumers.
