Nintendo’s highly anticipated next-gen console, the Switch 2, is shaping up to be a gaming marvel and is expected to hit shelves in early 2025. If recent leaks are anything to go by, this successor to the Switch isn’t just about upgraded performance—there are also fascinating updates to its Joy-Cons.
The rumor mill has been buzzing about the Switch 2, and the latest supply chain leaks paint a promising picture. A significant revelation came from Ruben Mercado, CEO of accessory company Blade, who, thanks to his company’s early access to the console, has shed some light on what fans can expect. According to Mercado, the development of the Switch 2 is complete, which allows accessory makers to start prepping their products in time for launch.
One of the most exciting tidbits from Mercado’s insights is the potential unveiling date for the Switch 2. It looks like Nintendo is planning to reveal the console around March or April 2025, strategically aligning with the financial quarter they aim to boost. When it comes to the price, it seems the Switch 2 will range between $440 and $550, making it a pricier option than its predecessor but still a competitive choice in today’s console market.
Despite Mercado not delving into the specific technical specs, he did reveal that the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons would feature magnetic connectors. This design change should make attaching and detaching controllers much more seamless. Additionally, it appears the analog sticks have been redesigned, suggesting a substantial overhaul that renders current protective covers incompatible.
Previous leaks hint even further at the hardware advancements we might see. An Nvidia Tegra SoC with up to 12 GB of memory and a larger OLED screen are all on the table, promising a significant performance boost over the current Switch.
This blend of innovative Joy-Con design and potential hardware upgrades sets high expectations for the Switch 2. As the launch date approaches, gamers and tech enthusiasts alike will be eager for more official announcements, hoping to see how Nintendo plans to elevate their gaming experience to new heights.
