Next-Gen Foldables to Feature Revolutionary Variable Aperture Cameras, Says Insider

It looks like Google is the sole contender left to reveal a new book-style foldable this year, following recent launches from Honor, Vivo, and Samsung with the Magic V5, X Fold5, and Galaxy Z Fold7. Excitingly, Huawei and Samsung might also introduce two new tri-fold smartphones before year-end.

Digital Chat Station, a well-known source for tech leaks, shared insights about upcoming trends in the foldable market on Weibo, based on an engineering sample. While final product specifications could vary, it seems the focus is shifting towards enhancing camera capabilities—a field where traditional smartphones currently hold the edge.

Some prototypes in testing are supposedly equipped with a 50 MP, 1/1.3-inch primary camera with a physical variable aperture, accompanied by a periscope telephoto macro camera. Additionally, these samples maintain current waterproof standards and come with a sleek, ultra-thin design.

Expectations for the next generation of book-style foldables include approximately 7.95-inch, 2K LTPO foldable displays crafted from ultra-thin glass (UTG). However, the specific manufacturers involved remain undisclosed.

Stay tuned as the foldable phone market continues to evolve with these exciting advancements on the horizon.
