Murena Opens Pre-Orders for the Hiroh: A New /e/OS Phone Delivering Android 16 Privacy Without the Tracking

Murena is now accepting pre-orders for the Hiroh, a new $999 (or 999€) smartphone designed for people who want stronger privacy controls without giving up the convenience of mainstream Android apps. To reserve one, buyers place a $99 (or 99€) deposit that will be credited toward the final price. The phone is expected to launch in February 2026, when customers will pay the remaining balance to complete the purchase. Pre-orders are available through Murena as well as the Hiroh brand itself.

What makes the Hiroh stand out is its focus on limiting data collection. The phone runs /e/OS, Murena’s privacy-centered operating system based on a modified Android 16 build with data-gathering code removed. The goal is to reduce the amount of personal information that can be collected about your browsing habits, app activity, and communications. /e/OS also includes tools to block trackers and restrict location access, with separate privacy settings that can be managed on an app-by-app basis.

Despite the privacy angle, Murena says /e/OS remains compatible with Android 16, meaning most Android apps should install and run normally. The company is also promising five years of operating system updates, which will matter to anyone who wants a phone that stays secure and usable long after the initial purchase. And for shoppers who like the hardware but don’t prioritize privacy features, a separate model with standard Android 16 is planned.

On the hardware side, the Hiroh aims to justify its premium price with solid flagship-style specs. It’s powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, paired with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of encrypted storage. If that isn’t enough space, there’s a microSD card slot for up to 2 TB of additional storage, a feature many modern high-end phones have dropped.

Privacy protections go beyond software. The Hiroh includes a hardware kill switch that physically disconnects the cameras and microphone, helping prevent unwanted access or secret recordings even if the device is compromised. The camera setup includes a 32 MP front-facing selfie camera, plus rear cameras listed as a 108 MP main sensor, a 13 MP wide camera, and a 2 MP macro lens. For wireless connectivity like 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi‑Fi 6E, the phone relies on a software kill switch. It also supports both nano SIM and eSIM for flexible carrier options.

The display is a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a 1,220 x 2,712 resolution and a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate. Murena lists up to 1,800 nits peak brightness (with 1,200 nits rated brightness), which should help visibility outdoors. Powering everything is a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging. The phone comes in an aluminum body with a glass back, offered in platinum or black.

With pre-orders now open and shipping expected in early 2026, the Murena Hiroh is positioning itself as a rare combination: modern Android performance, premium hardware, and privacy-first controls that are built into both the operating system and the physical device.
