The MSI Claw 8 AI+ has made waves with a new software update that enhances its performance by at least 10%. This impressive boost stems from a change in power limit settings, specifically PL2, which is now set at a minimum of 1W higher than PL1.
Previously, a misconfiguration in the Lunar Lake-based gaming handheld’s power settings held back its potential. After receiving guidance from Intel, MSI updated the Center M app, allowing PL2 to surpass PL1, freeing the handheld to extract more power and achieve its maximum performance.
Intel recommends a PL2 setting of 37W, aligning with the maximum TDP for Lunar Lake chips. With this update, and using the same GPU drivers, performance tests show nearly a 10% gain across most games, with some titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Space Marine 2 experiencing up to a 30% improvement.
The updated settings significantly enhance gameplay, especially in Space Marine 2, which saw a dazzling 31% performance increase at 15W. This positions the MSI Claw 8 AI+ ahead of competitors like the ROG Ally and ZOTAC Zone handhelds. At higher power settings of 25W and 30W, the device delivers 5-10% better performance at 1080p, with improved frame rates and stability.
Owners of the MSI Claw 8 AI+ should update to the latest version of MSI Center M to unlock these benefits. With the new power settings, the Claw 8 not only optimizes battery life in lower power modes but also enhances gameplay fluidity with noticeable frame rate improvements. For the best experience, users might consider lowering the resolution to 720p or 800p, where the FPS boost is even more apparent. The Claw 8 now firmly claims the top spot in performance, outpacing its rivals effortlessly.
