Microsoft is transforming its popular Microsoft 365 service by integrating cutting-edge AI features, though it comes with a higher price tag. The tech giant is enhancing its suite of online office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, with the formidable Copilot AI tool, which has been progressively embedded into various Microsoft products, including Windows 11.
Previously, the inclusion of Copilot required subscribing to the Copilot Pro plan at $20 monthly. Now, Microsoft 365 subscribers can opt to incorporate Copilot, but it will result in an increased subscription fee of 30-42%. This means individuals will see their monthly fees rise from $6.99 to $9.99, or annually from $69.99 to $99.99. For families, the cost will increase to $12.99 per month from $9.99, while yearly subscriptions will jump to $129.99 from $99.99.
Additionally, Microsoft 365 will soon host another AI-powered innovation: Microsoft Designer, a sophisticated image editing tool. This follows Copilot’s deep integration within Windows 11 and the inclusion of a dedicated Copilot button on most new laptops, such as the 2024 Surface Laptop.
AI’s rapid introduction across consumer products has sparked diverse reactions, with Copilot receiving mixed reviews. Critics have pointed out issues concerning response quality and Microsoft’s assertive integration approach. Despite these challenges, Microsoft’s ongoing AI enhancements aim to redefine productivity tools for users worldwide.
