The innovative ‘Circle to Search’ feature, jointly developed by Samsung and Google, has sparked keen interest since its announcement. This tool provides users with an easier way to access Google Lens by drawing a circle around the desired search subject on their screen, using Google Assistant. However, despite its potential, the feature’s rollout to devices beyond the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the Google Pixel 8 series has been planned for late in the year, specifically after October 5th.
Interestingly, Microsoft is poised to potentially outpace many Android devices with a similar concept in its Edge browser. Microsoft’s version, named ‘Circle to Search with Copilot,’ isn’t just a straight clone of Google’s feature. Instead, it is bolstered by Microsoft’s artificial intelligence prowess and is designed for use within the Edge browser, navigated with a mouse.
What to Expect from Microsoft Edge’s New Circle to Search Tool
User interaction with Microsoft Edge’s variant will be uncomplicated: individuals will draw a circle around content on their screen, and the Copilot AI will initiate analysis. The results of the analysis will trigger a Copilot conversation, displayed in a sidebar, where users can delve deeper into their queries related to the circled content.
Though showing promise, this feature isn’t currently available for use. It has appeared in the latest Canary builds of Microsoft Edge, suggesting active development, but it isn’t operational yet. The swift progress on Microsoft’s part is notable, considering the recent Galaxy Unpacked event unveiled the Circle to Search feature only a short time ago.
With this emerging tool, Microsoft seems set on enhancing the Edge browsing experience by integrating AI-driven search capabilities, potentially leapfrogging over many Android phones in offering such innovative functionality to their users. Users keen on experiencing the next level of intelligent search and browsing will undoubtedly keep a close eye on Microsoft Edge’s developments in the coming months.
