Microsoft adds Nvidia and AMD GPU options to Windows 365 Cloud PC offerings

Microsoft has recently expanded its Windows 365 Cloud PC service to include new configurations that leverage the power of Nvidia and AMD GPUs. This enhancement to its desktop-as-a-service offerings provides a significant upgrade for companies looking to supply their employees with powerful virtual PCs capable of handling sophisticated work tasks and applications.

Windows 365 is an innovative service designed to give businesses the opportunity to set up virtual computers loaded with all the necessary work software and settings. What makes it appealing is the flexibility it offers, as employees can access their Cloud PCs online from various devices—be it personal computers, tablets, or smartphones.

The latest update introduces three distinct GPU-equipped options within the Windows 365 Enterprise plans:

1. GPU Standard – This plan includes either an Nvidia or AMD GPU with 8 GB VRAM, paired with 16 GB RAM and 4 virtual CPUs (vCPUs).
2. GPU Super – Geared more towards heavy-duty tasks, this option provides an Nvidia GPU with 12 GB VRAM, a substantial 56 GB RAM, and 8 vCPUs.
3. GPU Max – For the most demanding needs, the GPU Max configuration comes with an Nvidia GPU boasting 16 GB VRAM, an impressive 110 GB RAM, and 16 vCPUs.

These configurations make it possible for employees to run graphically intensive applications such as Autodesk Maya for 3D modeling and Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve for video editing. They’re also capable of handling complex AI computations and scientific workloads, demonstrating the versatility of these Cloud PC setups.

The new GPU options are available across all supported regions with the exception of Central US, Norway East, and West Europe. For compatibility and performance assurance, Microsoft offers specific GPU drivers for these configurations and does not support alternate drivers.

Windows 365 Cloud PCs come equipped with Windows 11 and provide an experience that closely mimics working on a physical computer. This solution can be cost-effective for businesses as it minimizes the need for frequent hardware upgrades and the deployment of IT staff for new computer installations. Employees gain the advantage of being able to log into their virtual desktops from less powerful devices with internet connectivity, including not only standard computing devices but also compatible smart TVs.
