Microsoft’s latest update for Windows 11, delivered in March 2024, brings a range of new enhancements to the operating system, including upgrades to its Copilot functionality, Widgets board, and a host of other user-centric features.
Enhanced Capabilities in Windows 11’s Copilot and More
Users who have automatic updates enabled in the Windows Update settings will receive the new features with the optional non-security preview release update for Windows 11.
The Copilot experience is now smarter, offering the ability to adjust more settings directly within Copilot itself. Users can easily switch on the battery saver or manage their device’s storage and Wi-Fi connections more efficiently.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the new Generative Erase feature in the Photos app, which simplifies the process of removing unwanted objects from images. Additionally, Microsoft’s video editing software, Clipchamp, introduces a tool designed to eliminate those awkward pauses in videos seamlessly.
Widgets board customization has become more user-friendly, allowing individuals to opt out of the “Microsoft Start” feed and use alternative news sources like a Google News plugin.
Productivity gets a boost with the improvement of Snap layouts—Windows 11 now suggests layouts based on the user’s frequently used apps, streamlining workspace organization.
Tablet users with stylus support can now enjoy the convenience of writing directly into text fields across various applications including Photos, Paint, and WhatsApp. The expectation is that this feature will extend to additional apps in future updates.
Casting to external displays is now more straightforward, with enhanced notifications providing suggestions for casting and an improved connection experience. Sharing content between devices is also expected to be more efficient with improvements to the Phone Link feature, which allows access to photos and the capability to use the phone as a webcam, thus aligning the Windows experience closer to that of Mac environments.
With these updates, Windows 11 strengthens its position as a powerful and versatile operating system, catering to the evolving needs of its users across a multitude of use cases.
