Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 prototype made a stunning debut at CES 2025, introducing several exciting upgrades while running on Windows 11. This innovative gaming handheld boasts a slicker design and a vibrant OLED display, promising an enhanced visual experience. While Lenovo continues to offer the Legion Go S in both Windows and SteamOS variants, the Legion Go 2 is likely to be limited to just Windows.
The Legion Go 2 stands poised to follow in the footsteps of its 2023 predecessor, the Legion Go, but it seems it won’t follow the path of offering SteamOS. According to insights shared by Alex Zhu, the Legion Go product manager, Lenovo doesn’t plan on a SteamOS version for the new device just yet.
This decision may disappoint some gamers who hoped to see the Legion Go 2 stack up more directly against popular devices like the Steam Deck OLED. Despite the absence of SteamOS, the Legion Go 2 doesn’t skimp on features. Sporting a cutting-edge 144Hz OLED display, it’s a major upgrade from the original Legion Go’s LCD screen. It also offers impressive specs, such as up to 32GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and supports 65W fast charging for those longer gaming sessions.
While Windows remains the operating system of choice for the Legion Go 2, primarily due to its robust gaming and productivity ecosystem, those eager for a SteamOS option have a glimmer of hope. Valve’s upcoming beta release of SteamOS in March might just offer compatibility with a variety of gaming handhelds, potentially including the Legion Go 2.
Lenovo has yet to announce a release date for the Legion Go 2, but anticipation is high for this next-generation gaming powerhouse. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, Lenovo seems poised to deliver gaming enthusiasts an appealing blend of innovation and performance.
