July Update Sparks Battery Drain and Overheating Complaints for Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra

Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra users report severe battery drain after July update

Samsung’s July security update was expected to make the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra more secure and stable, but some owners say it has introduced a frustrating battery problem instead. After installing the latest patch, users have begun reporting unusually fast battery drain, increased device heat, and slower charging behavior.

According to complaints shared by Galaxy owners in Samsung’s community forums, the issue appears to start shortly after the July security patch is installed. One Galaxy S25 Ultra user said their phone’s battery performance was normal before the update, but immediately became much worse afterward. They claimed the battery dropped from about 85% around midnight to nearly 5% by midday, even though the phone had only around two hours of screen-on time.

The same user also said the device now loses roughly 5% to 7% battery per hour while idle. That kind of standby drain is far from normal for a flagship phone, especially one with a large battery and advanced power management features.

Galaxy S24 Ultra owners appear to be facing similar problems. One user said their phone used to last through a full day on a single charge, but after installing the July update, battery life became noticeably weaker. Other users joined the discussion to say they were experiencing the same issue, suggesting the problem may not be limited to a small number of devices.

Battery drain is not the only complaint. Several affected users also say their Galaxy S25 Ultra or Galaxy S24 Ultra is running hotter than usual after the update. Some have noticed slower charging speeds as well, making the situation even more frustrating for those who rely on their phones throughout the day.

For now, it is unclear what exactly is causing the problem. Sometimes, after a major or monthly software update, a phone may temporarily use more power while background processes optimize apps, rebuild system files, or refresh cached data. However, users reporting sharp battery drops and ongoing overheating suggest this may be more than normal post-update behavior.

Samsung has not yet issued an official response confirming the battery drain reports or announcing a fix. Until then, affected Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra owners may have to wait for another software update to resolve the issue.

Users experiencing the problem can try basic troubleshooting steps such as restarting the phone, checking battery usage in settings, updating all apps, clearing app cache, and enabling power-saving mode. If the phone continues to drain quickly or overheat, contacting Samsung support may be the best option while waiting for a permanent fix.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra are among Samsung’s most powerful flagship phones, so battery performance issues after a security update are understandably disappointing. If more users continue to report the same behavior, pressure may grow for Samsung to address the July update battery drain problem quickly.
